Third part of Einaudi's trilogy devoted to the autumn of 1961, after "The Battle of Paris" (1991) and "October 1961, a massacre in Paris" (2001).
This book broadens the perspective considerably by exploring the protests and repression throughout France, particularly in the North and East.
Einaudi collected new testimonies of a raw truth and had access to unpublished archives of the former French Federation of the FLN.
These documents shed particular light on the merciless war waged between the FLN and the MNA (Algerian National Movement) led by Messali Hadj, a fratricidal conflict which left hundreds of victims among Algerians in France.
The author reveals the extent of the repression orchestrated by Maurice Papon beyond Paris, demonstrating that state violence was exercised throughout the country.
The book constitutes an essential contribution to the knowledge of one of the most hidden aspects of the Algerian War in metropolitan France, a period when Algerians living in France were caught up in the double violence of the French State and the internal settling of scores within the nationalist movement.
